- Mark Twain's tale of a troublesome boy with a fertile imagination set in the American west of the 1840's. Although not specifically autobiographical, Twain born in 1835, grew up in much the same setting - a small town in Missouri near the Mississippi River where he used to spend hours watching the steamboats travelling up and down. The story follows the exploits of Tom Sawyer as he seeks adventure with his friends, Becky and Huckleberry Finn. They are short of excitement as their escapades bring them into contact with the murderous Injun Joe who is keen to silence them before they report his evil activities to the authorities. Guaranteed to capture the attention of any child.
