Synopsis:
Although this video contains none of the Beatles music, through the interviews, press conferences and newsreel footage, it does manage to show the fervor and hysteria that surrounded The Beatles on their first tours of USA, Japan, Australia and New Zealand in 1964. The US tour kicked off with their near riotous arrival at JFK airport in New York, in February, with an appearance on the popular Ed Sullivan Show, watched by an an estimated 73 million viewers and concerts in Washington DC, New York and Miami.
In June that year, they headed down under and this video features interviews and footage taken from Sydney, Melbourne, Darwin, Adelaide and Brisbane in Australia and Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin in New Zealand. This tour featured Jimmy Nicol deputising for Ringo Starr, who was ill at home. This video show what a worldwide phenomenon Beatlemania was and is historical record of the impact made by the Beatles in those changing times.
