Synopsis:
This classic cult movie of the 50's combined both elements inherent in the Sci-Fi and teen delinquent movies of the time and created a new hybrid that transcended both and set the standard for movies to come while helping to launch the careers of Steve McQueen and Burt Bacharach (who wrote the infectious theme song).

Dire - The Blob review by JH

Spoiler Alert
07/01/2022

Not sure why this film was given the Criterion treatment -- but it looks great on Blu ray. The blob effects are striking, and there are one or two great visual moments, but on the whole this is dire. The monster effects were presumably too expensive and time consuming to produce much of for a low budget b-picture, so the film is largely made up of dull, turgid dialogue scenes. The acting, direction, dubbing is terrible. It's lacks the campy fun of many of the other fondly remembered monster movies of the era.
