- When society hostess Ethel Durant (Katharine Pate) dies leaving a vast estate, the search begins for the rightful heir. Believed to have died childless, it soon becomes clear that Ethel's life before her rise to fortune was shrouded in mystery and controversy, and that she did in fact give birth to a baby girl.
