In London, several women are brutally murdered. The policeman Joe is scheduled for the fall. At the same time a sinister stranger moves into the home of Joe's girlfriend, Daisy, as a lodger. The stranger falls in love with Daisy and they become a couple, much to the displeasure of Joe. He suspects the mysterious stranger as the murderer. The stranger gets more and more into the twilight and is chased by the mob. Joe catches the real killer red handed. At the last second he can save the stranger from the mob, which wants to lynch him. It turns out that his sister was among the victims of the killer.
1927 production. There are some shakey story boards and film production which makes low budget look luxurious but for a silent film surprisingly gripping. Certainly not for 12 - 30 year old viewers. There is a lot of smoking on screen, which has a historic feel (and consequently I would give it a PG certificate for mild drug use), and more eye make up than is strictly necessary. The plot is not overly simple and enough momentum to make this short film very watchable.
