Synopsis:
Following the death of Diana the 'People's Princess', the Queen (Helen Mirren) and her family remain hidden behind tradition and the closed doors of Balmoral Castle. whilst the heartbroken public becomes disillusioned with their Queen's absence, an increasingly popular Prime Minister, Tony Blair, must battle to convince the monarchy that its desire for privacy could lead to its ultimate downfall. Superb performance from Helen Mirren - The Queen review by CP Customer

Spoiler Alert

I didn't really want to watch this as I thought it would be like one of those awful made for TV movies. How wrong was I?! It is a really well made film with excellent performances from so many of the cast. The story revolves around the death of Princess Diana and how different members of the Royal Family react. The Queen and Tony Blair have an interesting relationship as he tries to help her out of her sudden slump into unpopularity. Both characters are portrayed sympathetically and come out of the film quite well. Cherie Blair is played as a nasty, ungainly character and Phillip and the Queen mum come across as selfish and unpleasant. Probably not one to watch if you are a staunch royalist! Helen Mirren is outstanding as The Queen and manages to portray her grace and 'breeding' whilst also showing her love and concern for her grandchildren.

Better than you might think - The Queen review by Pete W

Definately not one of those dreadful films about the life and loves of the Windsors but a worthwhile attempt to portray the reaction within the royal household to the death of Princess Diana. At the time, the Royal Family seemed callous and uncaring. In the film some of them still are (particularly Philip) but the Queen herself (wonderful performance by Helen Mirren)is obviously in shock and needs rescuing (much to her chagrin) by young Mr Blair. Michael Sheen has deservedly got a monopoly on portrayals of our former Prime Minister - the voice and mannerisms are perfect. A scene stealing turn as the Queen Mum with an unexpected hard edge by Sylvia Syms. But worth watching for Helen Mirren's performance alone.

Fantastic portrayal, superbly told story - The Queen review by CP Customer

I have wanted to see this film for a while now & finally hired ot out a week or so ago.

The Queen definitely lived up to the hype, it was a great insight to the inner circle of the monarchy while telling the story surrounding Princess Diana's death & problems ensuing from the Royal's decisions in a very dignified way.

All actors, specially Helen Mirren, have done a fantastic job in portraying their characters & the scenery is beautiful.

I would definitely recommend this film if you are looking for a good film to sink your teeth into.
