Synopsis:
The first series of the popular period adventure series.

1. The Scarlet Pimpernel
Suspecting that the Pimpernel is an English aristocrat, Chauvelin (Martin Shaw) is sent to England to discover the identity of the mystery man. Once there, Chauvelin meets his former lover, the beautiful French actress Marguerite (Elizabeth McGovern), who is married to a foppish English aristocrat. Marguerite reluctantly gives Chauvelin information to find the elusive Pimpernel and has unwittingly betrayed him. In this first of the series, The Scarlet Pimpernel finds himself in the thick of murder, double dealing, intrigue and passion.
2. Valentin Gautier
The Scarlet Pimpernel meets his match when he is forced to confront Gabrielle Damiens, alias Mademoiselle Guillotine (Denise Black), the French Revolution's most fearless whip-wielding killer. He travels to France with his wife Marguerite (Elizabeth McGovern) to rescue the daughter of a French nobleman. Chauvelin (Martin Shaw) is sent by Robespierre to stamp out a rebellion by an aristocrat Henri (James Callis), but is held hostage and his men murdered. And when Marguerite is captured by Mademoiselle Guillotine, it will take all the guile and cunning the Pimpernel can muster to save her. He'll also need to charm his way past the cold-hearted Mademoiselle first. Meanwhile, Chauvelin's secret past comes back to haunt him and he is left with an impossible choice.
3. A King's Ransom
The Scarlet Pimpernel is drawn into a mystery which threatens to destroy the French Monarchy forever whilst putting his own life in grave danger. The heir to the French throne - 10 year old Dauphin - is under the control of Robespierre but is kidnapped by a sinister masked character. As Sir Percy gets close to witnesses who might identify the Dauphin's kidnapper they are killed before they can reveal the truth. However, all the signs point to the legendary swordsman Chevalier D'Orly - the only person with the skill and strength needed for the daring kidnap.
