Synopsis:
"The Silent World" is the first feature film from legendary diver, ecologist and champion of marine conservation Jacques Cousteau. Co-directed with award-winning director Louis Malle, 'The Silent World' brought the world of deep sea exploration to the general public for the first time, helping to cement Cousteau's reputation as the face of marine biology, and winning an Academy Award (Best Documentary feature, 1956) in the process.
Join Captain Cousteau and the crew of his famous research vessel, 'Calypso', as they travel the Mediterranean, the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean, encountering everything from sea turtles to huge herds of sperm whales, schools of sharks and long-lost underwater shipwrecks. Cousteau was a pioneer in the field of underwater technology, helping to develop the modern open-circuit Scuba system among other innovations, and this, his groundbreaking first film, uses these unique inventions to bring the majesty and beauty of this previously unreachable world to a wider audience. The Silent World's use of rich Technicolor in capturing this fascinating world makes the creatures and tropical fish of the deep look better than ever. Discover a new perspective on the world, in the company of a true nautical legend.
