In "The Soloist," an emotionally soaring drama about the redemptive power of music, journalist Steve Lopez (Robert Downey Jr.) discovers Nathaniel Anthony Ayers (Jamie Foxx) a former classical music prodigy, playing his violin on the streets of L.A. As Lopez endeavors to help the homeless man find his way back, a unique friendship is formed, one that transforms both their lives.
Not sure I am qualified to rate this film as I did not actually finish watching it. Although Robert Downey Junior and Jamie Foxx are both credible actors the film never gives them the chance to develop (by the 57th minute)a role that is either believable or emotional. I found myself not caring what happened to either character and for that reason stopped watching it. I can only assume that the tramp cello player ended up playing for an orchestra again, who knows. Not worth renting.
