Synopsis:
John Wayne and Marlene Dietrich star in this all-star adventure classic about gold and greed in an Alaskan boom town during the height of the gold rush in the 1890's. Wayne (Ray Glennister) is a virtuous ship captain who's been tricked out of his mine claim. Dietrich (Cherry Mallotte) is the town's sexiest saloon girl who must choose between the honest captain and the charming-but-no-good kingpin, Alexander McNamara, played by Randolph Scott. The Duke helps her make up her mind by taking on Scott in an all-out fight to the finish in Dietrich's saloon that film critics consider to be one of the most spectacular action sequences ever filmed.
It's adventure as wild as the Northwest territory itself.

An honest look at the gold rush - The Spoilers review by CP Customer

Spoiler Alert
03/12/2006

You get a good feel for how life must have been at the time, if you were a gold miner.

It's very interesting to see how women are perceived and treated, and how times have changed.

The fighting scene in the bar is really quite spectacular, even by today's standards. However it's more entertaining than realistic.
