- When commercial director Paul (Peter Fonda) plunges into a crisis after the breakdown of his marriage, he asks self-styled guru John (Bruce Dern), an advocate of LSD, to guide him on his first 'trip'. After scoring some acid from their friend Max (Dennis Hopper), Paul enters a mind-altering realm of beauty and terror, the like of which he has never known before.
