The films have been restored and retrieved from cine clubs, archives and private collections throughout the North East and North Yorkshire. Producer Liz Treadway and presenter Andy Kluz have trawled through hundreds of hours of forgotten footage to put together eight programmes charting the changing landscape and lifestyles of the region. The Way We Were takes a sentimental journey through life in the North East of England over the past three generations. With the help of collectors, cine enthusiasts and historians, the series builds up a fascinating and evocative social history from the 1920s to the 1980s. The first series of The Way We Were - broadcast last year - was a major ratings success attracting audiences of up to 400,000 viewers in the North East and North Yorkshire.
