And so The Word was born, five years of lively often controversial and ground breaking television, a show that could reach the heights and plummet the depths of taste, often all within the same 5 minute period. Hated by most over the age of 25, loved by most under 18s, it gave first UK TV appearances to bands and artists Including Nirvana, Oasis, Rage Against The Machine, Cypress Hill, The Manic Street Preachers, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Mary J. Blige and future Hollywood stars including Chris Rock, Halle Berry, Nastasha Richardson, Russell Crowe and Tim Roth. Due to its controversial nature it was soon moved from its 6pm time slpton Channel 4 in the UK, to its later slot of 11pm, where it defined a whole TV genre for the next 20years. Post pub TV, a night out on the tiles brought into your living room in glorious technicolour.
