It's a new term at Waterloo Road - and to say that nothing will be the same again is an understatement. There's a new boy, Finn Sharkey, who's been kicked out of more schools than most have attended. It will take more than Waterloo Road to turn him around, and if he's going down, he's not going alone. But in the meantime there's trouble to be caused, along with legal highs to be pursued regardless of the danger. Some pupils have the potential to make it from Waterloo Road to Oxford or Cambridge - a big step up for the school -but Michaela feels excluded and drums up a demonstration against "grade prejudice". She's a born leader, but does she have what it takes for higher education? By the end of term, the school will have seen a child abducted by a vengeful father, a schoolgirl crush that could destroy a career, a teacher whose life is spiralling out of control, and a head teacher whose heart is about to lead her out of the school gates - maybe for the last time. Because love is in the air at Waterloo Road, whether it's friendships that turn into love, or love that turns into friendship; marriages on the rocks or rocky relationships leading to marriage. You can be sure of one thing at this school: Nothing comes easy, and no one's getting what they want without a fight.
