I have enjoyed the series so far and understood the Geordie accent well enough with my southern ears, but this disc seems different, especially episode 9. I have not been able to follow this, but there are no subtitles. I guess it depends on which actors are in a particular episode. Some speak more clearly than others. I hope the rest of the series is better.

Wonderful series - don't miss it - When the Boat Comes In: Series 1: Part 2 review by CP Customer

Although made in the 70s this series still stands up today because of the period it's set in just after World War I, and the authentic sets and use of Geordie actors in all the roles. There isn't a bad actor in it and it's a terrific story. I hadn't seen it since it was first shown on TV, but enjoyed it just as much the second time. Thoroughly recommended. For those who are interested, it's when James Bolam and Susan Jameson fell in love in real life, and they are still together.
