Synopsis:
1950's America - Lanny Morris (Kevin Bacon) and Vince Collins (Colin Firth) are the country's most beloved entertainers. A classic double act at the top of their game when a scandalous murder mystery threatens their success and ends their partnership. Fifteen years later, up and coming writer Karen O'Connor (Alison Lohman), decides to turn this cold case into a hot story. She wins a lucrative deal to write an expose about Morris and Collins and begins to ferret out the facts behind this fabled showbiz split. Her investigation leads to involvement, with both Lanny and Vince.
But the more invested Karen becomes in the men and their story, the harder it is for her to accept disturbing truths about them and herself. What she finds is a serpentine, shocking tale of talent and treachery, love and lust, buried secrets and betrayed trust.

Starts and ends well, just a shame about the rest of it. - Where the Truth Lies review by CP Customer

Spoiler Alert

After a good start (well the first few minutes were) I'm affraid this film gets rather dull quite quickly.

It's told via a series of interviews set in the 70's with Firth and Bacon flashing back to events in the 50's by a journalist who idolised the pair as a child.Colin Firth and Kevin Bacon themselves play a "popular" fictional 50's tv duo rather in the mould of Ant & Dec. Unfortunately whether you like Ant & Dec or not you can't deny there is a chemistry there, one I'm sorry to say was sadly lacking in the Firth / Bacon version.

I like both Colin Firth and Kevin Bacon as actors and have enjoyed several other films I've seen them in but together in these roles I'm affraid it just didn't work for me.

I would've given this 1 star were it not for the fact that this picks up right at the end leaving you on a relative high. Disapointing.

I'm paying to rent a film, not to watch an advert for a chocolate bar that I can't even fast-forward through. All such films will get a low rating!
