An alienated teen in a multi-ethnic high school with doubts about multiculturalism finds solace on an internet chat room for similarly disaffected youth. Catherine Chapman (Sarah Polley) quickly hooks up with the shadowy National Identity Movement led by the charismatic Inga Kolneder, played by Lynn Redgrave. White Lies tells the truth about the dark heart beating just below society's skin.
