Synopsis:
"World Steam" is a lively survey of today's preservation of yesterday's steam engine heritage. Each video covers different parts of the world with extraordinary selections of main line, industrial, and working steam engines in different regions. This exciting video documentary series features highlights of famous steam engines and exotic locations. "The Far East and Australia" shows recently-built Chinese steam locomotives that continue to play an important role in fulfilling the country's transport needs. In Baotou see mighty steam engines hauling freight trains. Journey to Japan to enjoy a steam demonstration at the Kyoto roundhouse museum.
Then ride on the Chinachuba Railway which is restored for tourist service. On Java, one of Indonesia's main islands, witness German-built engines at work on a mountain line. On the neighbouring island of Sumatra, observe steam engines transporting goods from palm oil plantations. Then travel to Australia to experience three days of intensive steam action on the broad gauge line between Melbourne and Adelaide.
