Cinema Paradiso have put together a list of our six favourite new release DVDs that we have been extremely excited about during the start of this year. No matter what genre of movie you like best, you are sure to find a film that will take your interest in our list of new movies out on DVD below.
Whether you are watching as a family on your own or with your other half, there is bound to be an occasion to watch one of the fantastic films below.
The most anticipated new movies out on DVD now? We know that is mostly down to opinion, however, here are Cinema Paradiso’s pick of the top 6 most anticipated films of 2018.
The Post is a historical thriller starring Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks. Streep plays Katharine Graham, the first female publisher of a large American newspaper and Hanks plays the editor of The Washington Post, Ben Bradlee.
Directed and produced by Steven Spielberg, The Post shows how the two characters above become involved with a battle between the Press and the Government.
Graham and Bradlee essentially undercover huge cover-up secrets that have been spanning the period of 4 U.S. presidents.
The Mercy is a heart-wrenching movie, detailing the incredible story of an amateur sailor, Donald Crowhurst (Colin Firth) when he set out from the small seaside town of Teignmouth to sail around the world in a professional sailing competition.
Unfortunately, Crowhurst doesn’t make it home but the film follows his adventure and, of course, highlights the impact on his wife and children, who he leaves behind.
Donald Crowhurst becomes increasingly distressed, as he embarks upon a near-impossible voyage in an unfinished boat, as he realises he is not going to complete the challenge.
Putting Teignmouth on the map and telling a heart-breaking story of a determined sailor, driven to complete a challenge and earn money for his family, The Mercy is just out on DVD and a great watch.
The third and final film in the Fifty Shades series. Fifty Shades Freed follows Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) and her new husband Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan), whilst they are stalked by Anastasia’s ex-boss.
Ana becomes pregnant in this film and we watch how Christian deals with the news of becoming a father and, of course, his reaction to the complications in the way of his sexual experimentation.
Sadly, the vengeful ex-boss of Ana’s attacks Ana in the abdomen, meaning she loses her baby, it turns out he had lived in the same foster home as Christian and was jealous Christian was adopted by the wealthy Grey family.
Christian and Ana, unsurprisingly, get their happy ending and have two children together.
Although the movie, like with its predecessors, may have received some negative criticism, the movie is an all-round feel good movie and, if you can stomach the raunchy sex scenes, you might actually want to watch the series again!
The list of the new movies out above is, of course, not exhaustive! In fact, we’ve got a variety of DVDs just out on DVD available to hire from Cinema Paradiso.
