By taking the Robert Johnson and Son House-inspired acoustic Delta blues that he had played back in Mississippi and firing it up with raw amplification, he created the blueprint for generations of Chicago blues. Arguably the heaviest bluesman ever, Muddy sang from the depths of human emotion while wringing heart-wrenching screams from his slide guitar. When he added a second guitarist and rhythm section to his music, he invented the sound of not only the modern blues combo but countless rock bands, as well.
