From the opening scenes, you can see the quality of the film. The quality of the filming, the acting, the lighting, the soundtrack, the humanity. I remember it being a film I wanted to watch when it came out many years ago. I am delighted to have watched it now. The film gives an insight into the functioning of the East German state security police, but really it is about individual human beings and their humanity (or lack of it) within the system. (Now imagine a world in which your every move and word is tracked and examined and decisions made based on your every click and move.... )
