This is a wonderful film. The thing that makes it so is the way in which characters you *think* have been defined in their first few appearances (after all, that's what most films do) develop in response to events. There are plenty of films in which more is revealed of characters in each successive reel... but I have never seen them change and grow, in unanticipated ways, so completely plausibly in any other film.
