Mademoiselle Chambon

Pretentious and boring

(Edit) 18/03/2015

This is ideal if you like watching the plot development of a film interleaved with lengthy shots of building work being carried out, for no apparent reason.

The Hedgehog

Dull and artificial

(Edit) 18/03/2015

Very tedious, with unbelievable characters and overall an alienating effect. Time seems to go past very slowly.

Populaire

Stylish and humorous

(Edit) 10/02/2015

Period charm in a stylish and deliberately stylised comedy. Fairly typical wacky french humour and very enjoyable.

La Promesse

Gritty realism with unepected warmth

(Edit) 10/02/2015

Excellent acting with a range of non-cliche characters gives this film about the underside of corrupt immigration scams an unepected warmth and humanity.

The Trip to Bountiful

Very touching portrait of how not to treat an aged person

(Edit) 10/02/2015

A little slow to engage one's sympathy, but it becomes a very touching story about the need to provide dignity and freedom to the elderly. Very well acted and with many gentle and moving portraits.

Carnage

Clever and tense dramatic humour

(Edit) 10/02/2015

One of those situations where you know the events are gradually going to spiral out of control with all of the characters shedding their careful control to say what they really feel. Would work very well in a live theatre too.. Very funny, if slightly overdone at times.
