This is a kind of Bourne chase thriller mixed with time concepts a la back to the future. You kind of needed Doc Brown to come back and explain to you what was going on, or just have another drink and enjoy the rollercoaster ride and it is a big ride. Must have been terrific on the big screen but very enjoyable on DVD.
A story about taking twenty years to fall in love felt just like that. Billing suggests heart warming comedy but I was just glad when it was all over.
When you look at the cast list, esp. Matt Damon you could be forgiven that a CIA chase the bad guy movie is in order. Not a chance. This film is a real slow burner and feels more like a character study of life for CIA agents - and what a life. If you concentrate hard enough it's so sad it aches. If you don't concentrate really hard, it'll confuse you easily - at one stage we couldn't work out what time period the film was in because the subtle change was in Matt Damon's glasses indicating early career or later career. Jolie stands out as the only human character, luckily for Damon his character starts off emotionless and remains so pretty much throughout the film so role possibly suited him well.
I'm divided as to whether we enjoyed this one, worthy - possibly, entertaining - not really.
Well they often say it, and it's too often sadly true.
This time a little too full of itself, but failed to create any human interest in the lead character and had less precision in fight and chase sequences than the first movie - more excitement available on the DVD extras than the film itself.
Really enjoyed this film. Great after all the previous "downhill quality slide" of previous Batman movies to have one that tried to capture darkness and menace. It's still an action film after all so you don't expect to have a film of many levels but there was plenty to keep our interest throughout and a slight promise of another film towards the end. A good rental.
