Holmes and Watson

Don't bother using electricity

Will can act. He can. However, he has to be kept well away from anything to do with the film that includes script. Another third form self indulgence, which has ruled most of his films really.

Step Brothers worked because he did have some discipline, and story line, and the two boys were dynamic without being totally OTT.

This, again, just explores all forms of human function, disfunction, and objectionable language and phrase.

After 20 minutes, where i hoped it may suddenly pick up......it didn't. So i help save the eco system by turning off.

Not usually so critical of a film, but when a golden opportunity has been thrown away, money wasted, and when Will is capable of doing quite good things, is a lemon.

The Favourite

Brilliant acting.

The three ladies are very solid right through the film. The set shots/rooms are first rate. The historic skeleton is pretty accurate, according to the experts.....with some innuendo woven in as storyline of course.

Should be a 5, at least a 4, but the odd swing into objectionable-behaviour-for-the-hell-of-it, and the vaguely comic undertow.....plus the super good teeth....makes a solid 3.5

Mary Poppins Returns

Even Dick Van Dyke is there.

Worth seeing just for 93 year old Dick Van Dyke in amazing form, plus Angela Lansbury as well!

To be fair I found it boring, but wife liked it. Not sure if a bit slow for kids, and do they like so much music? Not tried it out on any yet.

Is well done though. Blunt does well singing. Replacement for Van Dyke is very competent, but no match for the megga dynamics that was Dick.

The nice normal family live in Paddington type family house in London....circa 5Mill in todays money!

The War of the Roses

Golden Oldie

Quite an old film now, but still quite up to date in content. De Vito commentates throughout, and holds a good progression. Managed to keep more interest than many of the modern films, and no computer graphics!

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

Xmas Jolly

Along with Elf, this is a film to watch maybe alternate Xmas holls. No swearing or overtly objectionable instances, so all the family can watch the downfall of the family festivities.

Margin Call

Things that go crash in the night

Probably not see Spacey again very soon, which is a shame. Irons does well in the company as well, and you could not miss the Spock guy.

Good illustration of how the banks got it wrong, again, and how they probably will again.............some good work done by most all folks in acting dept.

Untouchable

One of few based-on-true-stories that works

Great little film. Cluzet does superb job. Is understandable sharp, but retains his wit. Think has already had a re-make, but not sure why, and doubt will match this version of events.

In Bruges

Great film

Rarely get a film tickle along with no exploding livers, that maintains pace and interest. Colin and Bren are great match. Ralph is spot on as well. Brilliant photography and direction, of course, does help a bit

No Country for Old Men

Crazytown guy

Off its type, is one of the best. Menacing and well photographed. Tommy does his thing, and Javier trumps everything. Is hard to take your eyes off him.

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms

Nod to Fantasia

Lots of expensive actors in this one. Disney likes to play safe. Well made modern version of an older theme. Kids will enjoy it i think. Poor old Keira having to hold that squeaky voice all the way through!

Ruthless People

Bette fit

Old film for sure, but still bit of fun. Bette in full throttle mode. De Vito always puts everything into it.

Nobel Son

Alan gets nasty

Alan Rickman always delivers lines that can be actually heard. Articulate is always good. Quirky black comedy drama genre i guess. One i missed when came out. Pretty good compared to some of the junk out at the moment.

Bohemian Rhapsody

As predicted.

Having been there before, during, and after, and brother involved with all the 60's music industry, film is as thought it would be. Patronising, vague watercolour, with an apologetic Fred. He was far from that, especially in his second YMCA personna. He was very dynamic, full-on, and bit like Steve Martin with Bilko, was totally unique.........signifying he cannot be copied! Malic looks and sounds a bit like him.......is that Oscar standard acting?

Brother used to tell me a lot of the goings-on in the day, from about 1959 onwards, and if had written a book the law suits would have been colossal! Lot of people knew what was going on in areas, but nobody blew air up the golden goose.............

If someone had made a more accurate, and graphic, account of Freddie, with some private and public footage, it would have been vilified, so guess this offering was indeed totally predictable.

Fortunately there are still many people about who remember the entertainer artiste as he was. He was something a bit over the top on the party circuit, ask Paul Gam, but on stage he was over the top in control. His voice and musical feel was unrivaled.

Long live Freddie, and his music. Hopefully he is charging about somewhere having a great time......Full-on-Freddie................thank God for the characters. Lived down road from Oliver Reed........another story!
