The Prisoner

Superb reimaging that doesn't try to remake the original

(Edit) 23/10/2016

I own the entire original 1967 series on DVD and having finished watching the final episode of the new version have now ordered it on Blu Ray. It is brilliant.

Thankfully, while taking inspiration from the original the makers of the new version have not tried to remake the original so you can now appreciate both versions in their own right.

While in the original version the backdrop was the spy culture and the cold war of the 60's, the new version uses globalisation, corporations and consumer culture.

The story is tight and 6 episodes is just right. It doesn't drag on endlessly and unlike the original has an actual ending that ties everything up superbly, just not the way you're probably expecting it.

The new village has a surreal dreamlike quality to it. The 5.1 sound is crisp and atmospheric and the music has a beautifully sad melancholy feel to it and the visuals and cinematography is stunning.

One of the best TV series I've seen for a while.
