Synopsis:
Life is looking up for 14-year-old Walter. Never mind that he's been abandoned to the care of his two ornery great-uncles at their dusty Texas farm - not when he can while away the time tending critters (including a scraggly mail-order lion) and listening to fantastic tales of his uncles' youthful adventures saving princesses and defying evil sheiks.

An entertaining family film with a great story - Secondhand Lions review by CP Customer

Spoiler Alert
08/12/2005

Robert Duvall and Michael Caine play a pair of cantankerous old brothers living in Texas, who are forced to provide a place to stay for their young nephew Walter over the course of one summer. They don't know how to treat a young boy, and he too is initially intimidated by their bizarre habits, such as shooting at travelling salesmen. Gradually, bonds of trust and love are forged, the two Uncles share outrageous tales of their past exploits with their young nephew, and the main mystery within the film is whether the larger than life stories of heroic deeds in exotic lands that the two uncles tell are really true. It's a great story that captures the innocent enthusiasm of youth and the regrets of old age, showing how the young can learn from the old, and vice versa.

Brilliant film - Secondhand Lions review by RS

I can't understand the low rating for this film, I loved it. Cain and Duvall are two screen legends that work well together, and Osment is suitably confused as the wimpy little kid who finally grows a pair. The scene in the bar and Duvall's speech is worth playing over and over. Ignore the ratings, rent it!!!
