Internationally acclaimed director Sion Sono (Love Exposure, Himizu) brings his ultimate passion project, one of his oldest scripts and the film tie has wanted to bring to the big screen for over 20 years. Filmed on location Fukushima, home of the nuclear power planf meltdown and starring many of the city's residents, 'Whispering Star' takes place in a post-apocalyptic future in which humans are now outnumbered by machines, particularly Al robots, following 'devastating' human mistakes. Humanoid delivery woman Yoko Suzuki (Megumi Kagurazaka) makes her rounds through space, landing on isolated planets and meeting near-extinct human beings along the way. Whispering to Yoko is the child-like voice of her spaceship's operating machine. Neither understands why humans have the need to send each other seemingly insignificant objects that take years to be delivered. Sono's beautifully crafted sci-fi setting is reminiscent of the films of Russian master Andrei Tarkovsky.

Art house style - not much happens - The Whispering Star review by CP Customer
Having been a fan of Japanese slow burn films like Departures and Shall We Dance I looked forward to Whispering Star. The low budget acclaimed movie was a disappointing drag. Not a lot happens once the novelty of the house shaped cargo spaceship wears off. There is one (good) actress and a childlike computer voice. That's about it.
