- Based on the first volume of Spike Milligan's wartime memoirs, this brilliant transition from page to screen takes us into the 56th Heavy Regiment, Royal Artillery in training for World War II. When news breaks that Hitler has invaded Poland, Spike's (Jim Dale) rise to jazz stardom is interrupted as he is forced to prepare for brutal war. In training, Spike and his mischievous crew of newfound friends, stumble through a series of amusing and not-so-amusing misadventures. Despite the heartache of wartime, Milligan's unique sense of humour endures to create a comedy satire that will keep you rolling with the punches.

Carry On the Army - Adolf Hitler: My Part in His Downfall review by JD
Jim Dale plays a good "Carry on" style Spike. It is pretty funny but a bit dated and not as poignant as the book.
