At 14, school friends Steve 'Lips' Kudlow and Rob Reiner made a pact to rock together forever. Their band, Anvil, went on to become the 'demigods of Canadian metal', releasing one of the heaviest albums in metal history, 1982's Metal on Metal. The album influenced a musical generaton including Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax, that went on to sell millions of records. But Anvil's career took a different path - straight to obscurity. Anvil The Story of Anvil is a timeless, and at times hilarious, feel good tale of survival and the unadulterated passion it takes to follow your dream. Directed by Sasha Gervasi, we follow the band as they attempt one last shot at the big time with their thirteenth album 'This is Thirteen' and a calamitous European tour. More Than Just Metal - Anvil: The Story of Anvil review by CP Customer
The Story of Anvil is a documentary about a band that were left behind by their rivals. A combination of management, recording, location and frankly band luck destroyed their chances of success. The film visits the band as they struggle on, battling a terrible tour and dwindling crowds, internal conflicts and family pressures. Their brand of music will only appeal to a minority. Yet I’d recommend you overlook the soundtrack and experience what is an emotional tale of friendship, tough luck and fighting against all odds. Like The Wrestler, its much more than your first impression, beneath resides a remarkable documentary.

Life affirming. - Anvil: The Story of Anvil review by CP Customer
Even if like me you're not a metal fan this is still a great life affirming story of two 50 year old rockers who refuse to give up on their dream. I you enjoy this you should check out the equally good documentaries 'New York Doll', 'King Of Kong' and 'Billy The Kid'.
