Blackpool is a rollercoaster ride around the bright lights and faded grandeur of Britain's famous seaside resort. A darkly comic - and occasionally music - look at greed, love and family, through the rise and fall of local arcade owner Ripley Holden. Meet Ripley Holden - family man, businessman, jack-the-lad, bully. Trained at the school of hard knocks, Ripley is poised to make top dollar as Blackpool reinvents itself as the Las Vegas of the north. But, life is never so simple. His son Danny is troubled; daughter Shyanne is rebellious and petulant and his wife Natalie feels neglected; his business partners are untrustworthy and the council planning committee unbribable and unreliable. When the body of a young man is found in Ripley's showpiece arcade, events begin to spiral out of control.
