- Henri Verdoux (Charles Chaplin) is a man who lures wealthy women by promising them love and sweet happy-ever-afters. But once the wedding bells have chimed he murders them for their fortunes. As ever, this isn't just a simple, dark comedy. Whilst invoking the usual fits of laughter, Chaplin also encourages his audience to ask many questions, this time on the nature of evil.

Classic, One of the best black and white films. - Monsieur Verdoux review by CP Customer
A brilliant film, and a scope of inner struggle that reminds me of Chekov. I often attempt to watch "classic" films but end up fast forwarding. Chaplin's acting shows such emotional depth and subtlety, it isn't easy to play such vulnerable cynicism. Many people talk about great beginning's of films, i have always noticed endings of films. I thought nothing could ever top "Scum" for the very pure drama of its last shot , but this is a close rival !
