A history of R.A.F. Coastal Command, whose job it was to protect the UK from naval threats, and in particular the threat from German U-Boats during WWII. Initially poorly equipped, the introduction of depth-charges and newer aircraft with longer operating ranges, meant Coastal Command soon proved to be a highly effective tool in the fight against German submarines and shipping. In its later years, its role was primarily to track nuclear submarines, mainly through the introduction of the electronics-laden Nimrod squadrons.
