Synopsis:
BBC series in which steeplejack Fred Dibnah takes a look at Britain's national architectural treasures.

Bridges and Tunnels
From earliest times, man has had the need to cross rivers and Fred searches out some of the great achievements required to accomplish this. Fie looks at simple stone bridges right through to modern structures including the Thames Barrier, which although not really a bridge or tunnel, Fred shows it is a great piece of engineering that combines elements of both. Never one to miss the chance of trying something new, he steers a canal barge across the narrow Pontcysyllte aqueduct, has a go at the traditional method of "legging" through the Dudley Canal and in his back garden he demonstrates the strength of the Forth Bridge with the help of his wife and a friend.
Pleasure Palaces
Fred spends time in Bath admiring the architecture as well as explaining how the Romans developed the city into one of leisure and pleasure. Fie then moves on to London where he appreciates the work that went into the construction of the Globe Theatre and the museums in South Kensington. In Edinburgh he reflects on the Scott monument and the manner in which it has been restored. His final stop is Blackpool where he uses his expertise to explain the important architectural points of the piers and the Grand Theatre. Whilst there he also rides the Pepsi Max Big One, losing his famous cloth cap in the process.
