Early 1970's - escaping grey London and a failed relationship, a beautiful young woman, Julia (Kate Winslet), takes her two daughters, six year-old Lucy (Carrie Mullan) and eight year-old Bea (Bella Riza), off to Morocco in search of adventure - "something better than before". She is brave and curious, and ambitious for them all, and a single mother's life in a one-room flat in South London isn't all she wants to give her children. Lucy and Bea run free in the co lour and life of Marrakech, but the city offers less freedom to a penniless mum seeking the meaning of life. Julia's struggle is transformed by the charming and feckless Bilal (Saïd Taghmaoui), who captivates them all. But her adventurous freedom has its price, and eventually she is forced to recognize what she has learnt, about herself and about the search for happiness. - Actors:

An evocation of an era, so entertaining on the level of remembrance.
Goes well with the book. Kate Winslett great as usual.
Younger viewers may be a bit mystified about what the main character was all about.
