- Seized by U.S. customs and subsequently the subject of a heated court debate, I am Curious Yellow is a cinematic landmark that caused a sensation for its explicit sexual content. It subsequent infamy saw it become the highest grossing foreign film in the U.S. for 25 years. Combining fiction and documentary techniques, Vilgot Sjoman's film tells the story of Lena, a radical young woman exploring the social issues of Sweden in the 60's as well as her own sexual identity. The disc includes Sjoman's follow-up, I am Curious Blue, which continues Lena's journey of self-discovery.

nevertheless is shot in b/w, so the colours refer to the Swedish flag. It's 2 films about a film in a film - or is it? For sure it's different from other movies - part documentary, part behind the scenes and part drama. Sometimes funny to watch as it's typically late 60's, left wing, anti this and anti that. For the so-called explicit sexual content - well maybe for Americans, who may not watch frontal nudity - especially male parts(!) but the BBFC gave it a 15 certificate, so compared to 9 Songs or Shortbus this is almost family viewing! One suggestion proposed in the story has changed in Sweden - a few years ago state and church were seperated.
