Island 63° 66° N: Vol.1
This film touches the soul of Iceland. It lets you hear, see and feel the fascination and mysticism of this country. Stefan Erdmann always travels by himself through Iceland, with two cameras. During 16 journeys, he has experienced and filmed the land in fantastic and breath-taking moments. This remarkably beautiful film is created from the essence of this filming. The very first scene shows Iceland the way it is: wild and brute, full of energy, yet at the same time gentle. In the seemingly unreal light of the setting sun, waves several metres high move unstoppably and with thunderous roar toward the black lava beach of Vík í Mýrdal. This is where the journey of Stefan Erdmann begins; and from where it leads to all regions of this unique island in the North Atlantic. In an extensive, fascinating and personal style, the film maker documents the adventures and impressions of his journey across the Earth’s largest volcanic island.

This is Iceland's most popular hiking tour, and leads from Landmannalaugar to Þorsmörk abd from there over the mountain pass Fimmvörðuhals towards the coast to Skogar - the "Laugavegur - Path of Hot Springs". The Fjallabak...it is here where this documentation begins, and leads from the striking volcano Hekla through the regions of the southern and northern Fjallabak to the destination Landmannalaugar. Here starts the Laugavegur, taking for over 70 kilometers coastwards to Skogar. Erdmann shows in his 90 minute film a detailed account of constant change in these impressive landscapes, which turn this path into a fascinating and unique experience. He also repeatedly points to all the finer details, the multifold flowers, the quietly splashing brooks, surrounded by shiny green moss, and so many other things that can be discovered along the side of the road. He also describes his encounters with the occasional hikers, he met especially near the cottages.

2,000 kilometres of flight; more than 200 hours raw material; 4,000 hours conception, postproduction and music composing. The result is a fantastic and unique film about iceland. After the success of his first two films, the German filmmaker Stefan Erdmann this time sets out with his Icelandic friend Þórhallur Òskarsson to film Iceland from an microlight aircraft. The result is one of the most beautiful and fascinating nature films about the world’s largest volcanic island. The music - specifically composed for this film - perfectly matched the impressive shots of the unique and breathtaking natural landscapes of Iceland. With his imagery, Erdmann takes the viewers to a trance-like state of weightlessness and makes them feel as if they were aboard an aircraft, soaring above Iceland like a bird. During the film, Erdmann rarely speaks. With his long takes he gives the viewers sufficient time to immerse into the landscapes and interpret their beauty themselves. He discreetly advocates for the harmony between nature and civilization. A remarkable, unique audio visual experience.
