Synopsis:
Nine films from the colourful 'Look at Life' series, produced by the Rank Organisation every week for screening in Odeon cinemas. This collection offers a fascinating insight into the planes, missiles and other machines employed by the Royal Air Force in a world facing the threat of nuclear extinction. Narrated by Richard Baker, Raymond Baxter and Tim Turner, these films combine stunning aerial photography with intriguing behind-the-scenes footage of the RAF at the height of the Cold War.

Test Pilot (1961)
Test pilots probe the unknown elements of the supersonic age aboard Lightnings - the latest, and fastest, jets of the Royal Air Force.
Thunder in Waiting (1960)
V-Bombers carry a deadly cargo of guided nuclear missiles. These planes, and the new Thor rocket, form a crucial part of Britain's deterrent force.
Flight Deck (1960)
Scimitars and Sea Vixens spearhead the strike force aboard HMS Hermes - the most modern aircraft carrier in the Navy.
The Black Arrows (1959)
The nine Hunter jets of 'Treble-One' Squadron are better-known as the Black Arrows, the finest aerobatic display team in the world.
Back-Room of the Sky (1963)
The work of test pilots and scientists at the Aeroplane and Armament Experimental Establishment in Boscombe Down.
Jumping Jets (1965)
British, German and US pilots test the revolutionary Kestrel jump jet, a remarkable new plane that can act as a fighter, bomber and helicopter.
The Sky's the Limit (1963)
The art of aerobatics - flying a plane to the limits of its manoeuvrability - both within the RAF and at the Tiger Club in Redhill, Surrey.
Air Umbrella (1960)
The various international squadrons that provide NATO with an air umbrella over Europe. Includes footage of the F104 Starfighter - the so-called 'missile with a man in it'.
School for Skymen (1966)
Since 1920 the Royal Air Force College at Cranwell has trained some of the world's most distinguished flyers, including Douglas Bader, T.E. Lawrence and Frank Whittle.
