Bhagawant Kumar Bhartendu (Amol Palekar), Professor in a reputed college is financially well placed and happily married to beautiful Priya (Ranjeeta Kaur). He has a deep-rooted fear that he is suffering from some chronic ailment may be just to have the sympathies of his friends and his dear wife. One morning he overhears his family doctor discussing with the specialist. "It is an advanced stage of heart trouble causing death within three months". Thinking the talk is about him he firmly believes he is going to die, though the doctors were talking about some other patient. He is worried about his wife.
What will happen to her after his death? He gets nightmares that Priya is being cheated, exploited, and dishonoured by the cruel world. The only solution to this he finds is that Priya should marry again after his death. But whom should she marry? She is not capable of finding a husband on her own. Bhagawanth feels that he himself should find a person for his wife. Bhagawant who is perfectly fit and healthy and not going to die, begins desperately looking for a husband for his wife which leads humourous situations creating roaring laughter.
