When a curate is burnt to death inside a straw effigy, Barnaby and Scott are called to Midsomer Parva to investigate the strange goings-on. It turns out the village has a history of witchcraft - and some of the residents think that black magic is to blame for the death... But the detectives discover more down-to-earth motives for murder. Nightclub owner Alan Clifford has been upsetting the locals with his loud parties and unconventional ways.
