The Leader, His Driver and the Driver's Wife (1991)Conceived as an installment of the trailblazing Channel 4 series 'True Stories', Nick Broomfield's frightening and hilarious film exposes the absurd depths of devotion the neo-Nazi Afrikaner Resistance Movement and its leader, Eugene Terre'blanche, inspire in the peoples of Apartheid-ridden South Africa in the early 1990s. In a purposefully ramshackle quest for an interview with the illusive Terre'blanche, Broomfield cajoles, hustles and irritates the svengali-like figure, his driver JP and JP's extraordinarily chipper wife Anita, in a startlingly successful effort to peel back the layers of the regime and its unnervingly congenial membership.
