- Synopsis:
Joel Fleishman (Rob Morrow) is a new medical college graduate. Due to a clause in the small print of his scholarship contract he finds himself in the remote and decidedly bizarre town of Cicely, Alaska. Warmly welcomed by the founder of Cicely, Maurice Minnifield (Barry Corbin), an ex NASA astronaut and the other collection of misfits and eccentrics that make up the populace, Joel finds it increasingly hard to leave the town that he has unwittingly found himself in. This is complicated by the prescence of Maggie O'Connell (Janine Turner), the Mayor of Cicely and local pilot, a beautiful, but completely independent woman. All set to the musical and philosphical radio show hosted by Chris on KBER. - Actors:

Extremely good - and it has dated well - Northern Exposure: Series 1 review by RT
An extended tale (tail?) of a New York doctor “banished” to Alaska (although it was mainly filmed in Washington State I believe) to repay his college debts. He suffers massive culture shock (no bagels) as he comes across a room ange of bizarre, and often endearing characters, as well as a life he never imagined in his worst nightmares - from the ex astronaut magnate through the local DJ by way of a hermit cordon bleu chef. His coming to terms with his new life fascinating. Well written and pretty consistent until (imho) the last series, it is well worth watching.
It has aged well. I rented the first disk as my collection of DVDs is missing it!
