- Judi Dench mesmerizes as Barbara Covett, a teacher who rules over her classroom with an iron fist, yet leads a desperate, solitary life outside it. That is, until she meets radiant new art teacher Sheba Hart (Cate Blanchett). Although at first overjoyed with her newfound kindred spirit, when Barbara discovers that Sheba is having an affair with a teenage student, her jealously and rage spiral out of control.

Acting bonanza - Notes on a Scandal review by CP Customer
Wonderfully acted movie with some big names in it. Tale of interwoven lives and needs, of sexual desire across age groups and of the human capacity to go to any extremes to try to obtain it. Stunning performances and very worth watching. Story fairly predictable, but doesn't detract from the enjoyment.

The psychology of friends - Notes on a Scandal review by CP Customer
Twisting storyline about the psychological aspects of two womens lives and relationships. It looks at sexual need and particularly at a dark and obsessive friendship and its impact on both women. Well acted.

Dench steals it for me - Notes on a Scandal review by JD
Judi Dench plays a superbly creepy character. It will make the hardest squirm. Cate Blanchett is also good in the slightly easier role of an air head, easily manipulated teacher. Nighy shows a new side. The children are satisfactory but didn't quite come up to the awesome level of the main actors. It is a brilliant account of a dreamy dizzy blonde caught in a web of her own but then caught in a far more complex web.
