The ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 produced many great memories. Along with the conclusion of a couple of the all-time wonderful careers, the world witnessed undoubtedly the greatest one day side to ever play the game. The irrepressible champions Australia powered their way to a hat-trick of successive World Cups defeating the entertaining Sri Lankans in the Final, and in doing so stretched their World Cup match winning sequence to an astonishing 29 games since The Aussies dominated the competition with the incredible stroke-play of master batsmen Matthew Hayden, Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke, the awesome glove work and power hitting of Adam Gilchrist, the guile of Brad Hogg and the raw pace of Shaun Tait. Not to forget a truly fitting culmination of a quite brilliant career of one of the games all-time great bowlers, the masterful Glenn McGrath, as leading wicket taker and player of the tournament. There were some remarkable feats and achievements created across the islands of the Caribbean. Who could possibly have predicted the initial stages would see the giants India and Pakistan eliminated at the hands of the at times brilliant young Bangladeshis and the heroic Irish team respectively? The adventure of the Irish team and their wonderful fans has been written into cricketing folklore. The emergence of the exciting Sri Lankan pace man Lasith Malinga and his astonishing four wickets in four balls against South Africa. The Proteas own Herschelle Gibbs record breaking six sixes in an over against the Dutch. The enigmatic Kevin Pietersen with his majestic centuries against the Aussies and West Indies, Muttiah Muralitharan's wizardry bamboozling the Indian batsmen, the last ball drama of Sri Lanka's victory over England and their captain Mahela Jayawardene's sublime semi-final century against the Kiwis. The emotional farewell of another of the game's all time greats Brian Lara and the truly remarkable innings of Adam Gilchrist in the Final.
