Rajmata Jijau (2011)

Biopic of Rajmata Jijau, mother of King Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the 17th century Indian aristocrat who established Hindu self-rule. Rajmata (Smita Deshmukh) is idolised in India as an ideal matriarchal figure. Particular attention is paid to the manner in which she raised her heroic son, Shivaji (Amol Kohle), who would go on to win Hindavi Swarajya, which translates as 'self-rule of Hindu people'. This biopic follows Rajmata in all her roles - mother, daughter, sister, advisor, friend - and presents her as the heroic mother of an empire.
