- Set in 1935, Rambling Rose is the story of Rose (Laura Dern), a housekeeper who comes to live with the Hillyer family in order to avoid getting into any "trouble", and to escape her reputation. Despite being a good-hearted girl, it seems that Rose cannot help herself, and after a failed attempt to seduce Daddy Hillyer (Robert Duvall) she turns her sexual attentions to his son, Buddy (Lukas Haas). Overwhelmed and shocked by Rose's loose behaviour, Daddy Hillyer agrees with the local doctor (Kevin Conway) that perhaps the only way to prevent her getting into more trouble would be to have her "fixed".

Entertaining and touching - Rambling Rose review by CP Customer
Set in the 1930's, Rambling Rose revolves around the story of Rose, a young, restless and free spirited orphan girl, in search of affection. Employed as a maid by a Southern family of high moral values, it's not long before Rose soon brings chaos to the well ordered household, but at the same time also brings some love into a loveless family. It's a nice easygoing but edgy story with some great characters, and if anything shows what a great character actress Laura Dern is, and a real shame she has somewhat dropped of the radar.
