Synopsis:
"Star Cops" forms an original and vivid re-imagining of mankind's near future , devised by Chris Boucher (Doctor Who, Blake's 7). Following the exploits of Nathan Spring (David Calder) and the International Space Police Force in the year 2047, 'Star Cops' confronted crimes ranging from mass murder and political corruption to art fraud. Sci-fi with a hard edge of 'cop drama', the series bristles with brilliantly drawn characters, each struggling to survive in the cold, brutal 'high frontier' of outer space. Star Cops proved a unique mix of sly, cynical humour, grimly plausible scenarios, excitement and thrilling visuals. Welcome to the future.

Excruciating dialogue, angry acting and stylistically all over the place. - Star Cops: Series review by RunDeckardRun

Spoiler Alert

Big disappointment. I had heard that this was a forgotten BBC sci-fi gem with a great script etc. I just about managed to watch the first few episodes and couldn't take anymore. The dialogue is simply awful, with some sort of homage going on to 'hard boiled' noir thrillers of yesteryear, but is simply off-putting; so many of the characters seem to be angry and constantly snapping at one another. There's also some vaguely Blade Runner-inspired content here but it simply doesn't work. Also, the storylines, and the main character, flips between being on Earth one moment to being in space the next, as though it were simply like hopping on a bus. I felt as though I was watching two different programmes that had been mashed together just for the hell of it. I would recommend avoiding this one.
