Synopsis:
Historic, dramatic and often unpredictable, the 146th Open will forever be remembered as one of the very best. On a roller-coaster final day at Royal Birkdale, Jordan Spieth saw a three-shot overnight lead wiped out before hitting his drive on the 13th hole onto the driving range. What followed was the ultimate sporting response as the young American overcame his demons to realise a lifelong dream and become the Champion Golfer of the Year. Spieth was not the only story at Birkdale though. The ever-popular Matt Kuchar, cheered on by his legion of loyal fans, made a valiant bid for his first major championship.
Branden Grace made history with the lowest ever round at a men's major championship, whilst Mark O'Meara said goodbye to The Open at the place where he won the Championship 19 years earlier. But from start-to-finish, Spieth set the tone, soothing the scars of previous major misses with a performance reminiscent of another former Birkdale winner, Arnold Palmer, as he became the youngest American winner of the Claret Jug.
