In 1965 Diego Mora (Yves Montand), militant of the Spanish Communist Party, lives exiled in Paris. He regularly crosses the Franco-Spanish border with documentation of other people to go to Madrid and serve as a liaison between other exiles like him and the militants who suffer the dictatorship in Spain, in addition to meeting with his lover Marianne (Ingrid Thulin). In one of his risky trips will be about to be discovered by a customs agent (Michel Piccoli), but thanks to Nadine (Genevive Bujold), the daughter of the real owner of the passport used by Diego, will avoid suspicions and cross the border. Returning to Paris Diego will begin to distrust the means provided for his missions, as well as the very purpose of a fight without any reward ... - Actors:
