The touching story of the day that peace finally came home. On the 8th May 1945 the dark clouds of war were at last lifted from over Great Britain. At 3 o'clock on that memorable day Winston Churchill's speech to an expectant nation finally confirmed that Victory in Europe was won and six long years of War were finally at an end. This video features the unique spirit of the occasion which is recaptured by the unforgettable music of the war years and through the golden memories of those who were there. The programme also features remarkable footage of performances by the great entertainers who kept the Country singing through it's darkest days Gracie Fields, George Formby and Flanagan and Allen.
